There are beautiful wild orchids in the Scottish Highlands. We saw them lots of places while hiking. I think they were my favorite wildflowers from the trip. Identification is tricky and some photos are a bit blurry. I hope these are correct.
Heath spotted orchids – shades of pink, lavender, and white
They were all absolutely gorgeous, and I was so pleased to be able to find them in bloom.
Bravo for the flowery travelogue! I am envious of your trip to Scotland. Even though I live in Europe, I never actually go anywhere! I spend all my travelling money taking the kids home to Massachusetts every year. Scotland is high on my list of places I want to visit, especially since my mother’s family are “Carrs”.
Karen.. my family is Cunningham – from the Ayrshire area. We also visited the old castle in Glengarnock when we were there. We loved Scotland – I hope you get to go over sometime.
Did you hike on your own or with a guide? How did you know where to go?
Hi Marian.. We went on our own. We just hiked along trails that we saw in the guide books and lo and behold there were the orchids. I loved them. I can share the sits we went with you if you want. There’s lots of lovely stuff about the areas online too.
Yes, please let me know the general area and time of year. Thanks!
